Christmas is almost here and we have a variety of great drinks for this week’s staff picks. We chose a fantastic beer, vodka and wine. For wine we chose Alias Cabernet Sauvignon, for a vodka there is Bak’s Zubrowka Bison Grass Vodka and to finish it off we chose Leinenkugel Snowdrift Vanilla Porter for a beer.
Alias Cabernet Sauvignon
This 2013 vintage Alias Cabernet Sauvignon is made of 93% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7% Syrah. This is a special wine that a wine lovers will love, so good it was selected by The Wine Enthusiast as one of its Top 10 Wines under $10 last year. On the nose it begins with notes of tobacco and tea and then opens up with delicious notes of cocoa and dark fruit. There is also hint of eucalyptus and violet that completes the complex aroma. This wine is fermented in American and french oak which creates a a beautiful array of notes of toffee, vanilla and toast taht appear on the palate. These nice notes are the cherry on top of the delectable dominant blackberry, cherry and chocolate flavors. The texture is big and wide but, very smooth with light tannins. Alias Cabernet Sauvignon has 13.8% ABV and brings big flavors and because of that it needs big flavorful dishes like a good hearty steak or braised beef to befriend it at dinner.
Bak’s Zubrowka Bison Grass Vodka
A Polish vodka that features a blade of bison grass from the forests in northeastern Poland in Bialowieza that traces its origin to the Polish aristocrats of the 13th century. This is a premium Polish vodka that is triple distilled from potatoes and charcoal filtered with 40% ABV. This vodka has an interesting and distinctive clear green color that leaves a thick clear coating on the glass. On the nose there are grassy notes and notes of vanilla, honey, citrus and aromatic oils. On the palate there is a big rush of sweetness with notes of cinnamon, cardamom, citrus and honey. It has a thick body that has slight warming of alcohol when drinking and a lingering warmth and oily finish. This is a vodka that is different but still enjoyable that will surely please Vodka fans.
Leinenkugel Snowdrift Vanilla Porter
December is almost here and that means snow and nothing beats enjoying a delicious porter style beer while watching a Christmas movie as it snows outside your window. This porter is perfect for said occasion. Leinenkugel has produced this amazing holiday porter exclusively for the winter season. It has a fluffy khaki colored head when poured into a glass that drift along the side of the glass like snow falling on a December night. The body of the beer has a dark brown caramel color. On the nose it has an aroma rich in dark roasted cocoa, chocolate, coffee bean and some hops. On the palate it has notes of vanilla, caramel, toast, toffee, light cocoa, brown bread and some herbal and earthy notes. Fans of vanilla will absolutely love this porter. It has minimal carbonation and is very smooth. Porter fans… Christmas has come early and it’s come in a 12oz bottle with 5%ABV.
