This Week’s Staff Picks – January 4

2016 is now here and after the busy holiday season it’s time to settle down and relax. The Christmas shopping and holiday party planning is over. You can now relax with a glass or two of wine. Sticking to the theme of wine this week’s picks are about wine and beer. We have chosen 4 wines from Entwine. Not only are these great wines they are all on sale for just $8.88 each! For beer we chose Grey Sail Brewing of Rhode Island’s Great Ketch India Pale Lager.

Entwine Cabernet Sauvig non

This Cabernet uses grapes harvested from select  vineyards in California whose climate and soil produces ripe, round fruit flavors. It is produced in stainless steel tanks and pumped twice daily. The wine is aged for 12 months in French, American and Eastern European oak barrels. The aroma is fruity and on the palate it is rich, fruity with hints of thyme and raspberry. This is a great wine with 13.5% ABV that pairs well with burgers and blue cheese.

Entwine Chardonnay

This white wine is aged for 15 months and fermented in a combination of oak barrels and stainless steel tanks. The fermentation is kept cold to maintain a slow process that retains the natural fruit flavors that are present in the grapes. The aroma is rich in melon and apple. On the palate the flavors are fruity and pleasant with hints of mineral with a lush texture and medium body that finishes clean. A superb Chardonnay with 13% ABV that pairs well with shellfish or roast chicken with a creamy sauce.

Entwine Pinot Grigio

This Pinot Grigio uses grapes that are pressed and fermented in upright stainless steel tanks. Like the Chardonnay this process helps retain the delicious fruity flavors inherently present in the grapes. The wine is aged for 12 months in the stainless steel tanks that create a crisp and fruity character. On the nose there are delicious notes of white cherries, honeysuckle and spicy green grass. On the palate it has some notes of tart, lime, honey and green apple. A great citrusy wine with 13% ABV that pairs well with Asian cuisine.

Entwine Merlot

Also produced in upright stainless steel tanks like the Pinot Grigio, this Merlot undergoes the process known as Rack and Return, which drains all of the free-run juice off the cap and then returns the free-run juice back over the top of the fermenter. The wine is aged for 12 months in American, French and Eastern European oak barrels. It has a nice fruity nose and on the palate it has delicious, ripe and juicy flavors of cherry and dark fruits with a great peppery finish. A great red wine with 13.5% ABV that is delicious with pasta and roast pork.

Great Ketch India Lager

This lager is made here in Rhode Island by Grey Sail Brewing of Rhode Island. It is brewed with German pilsner malts and 5 different hops, Amarillo, Simcoe, Galaxy, Equinox and Citra. It is brewed in four weeks twice as long as the ordinary lager to make it extra good. This beer has a beautiful golden color when poured. The aroma is rich in hops. The palate, much like the aroma is hoppy and smooth that balances well and creates a nice lingering bitter finish. Overall a great, smooth lager made here in Rhode Island with a confident 8.5% ABV. A great beer to enjoy after a long day or at a party.
