This week’s staff picks include a great selection of white wines. While red wines are great sometimes a great white wine provides the satisfaction a red wine can’t match especially when eating seafood.
This Italian sparkling wine is great for Saturday night get together or celebrating nuptials. It has a pleasant aroma with notes of lemon bread, floral bath soap and bread pudding. Accompanying the nice aroma it has a fruity sweetness with a light to medium body. It ends with a nice honeyed nectarine and pear finish. This sparkling white wine comes highly recommended with a 85 point rating from Tastings.com.
Bayten Sauvignon Blanc
This wine is produced in South Africa on “Bayten” one of South Africa’s premiere wine farms since 1796. This winery is located just a few miles from the sea which makes this wine elegant and balanced and one of the most renowned wines around. This 2013 sauvignon blanc has a pale straw color. It opens with aromas of mild yellow grapefruit and lime with hints of wet stone. On the palate it is medium bodied and acidic. Accompanied by flavors of tart grapefruit with notes of lime, minerals, and tangerines. The finish is dry and refreshing.
J Russian River Valley Chardonnay
This high quality chardonnay, 2012 vintage, is produced in California by J Vineyards in the Russian River valley of Sonoma country. It’s is fresh and very elegant. With aromas of citrus aromas of pineapple and lemon that are punctuated by a zesty spice it shows its elegance. It has flavors of kiwi, peaches and pears with bright acidity and a creamy yet tart finish. This a fantastic wine to pair with cheese or a delicious pork tenderloin lunch.
